Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest Plantation was the home of the 10th U.S. President John Tyler from 1842 until his death in 1862. Sherwood Forest Plantation has been the continuous residence of the Tyler family since the President purchased it in 1842. Known to be the longest frame house in America, it is over 300 feet long. Sherwood Forest Plantation reflects the lifestyle of this mid-19th century Presidential family. Beautifully wooded landscape and 12 dependencies surround President Tyler's home.

Sherwood Forest Plantation's grounds are open 9:00 am-5:00 pm daily. Located on State Rt. 5, 14501 John Tyler Highway, Charles City, VA. 30 minutes from Williamsburg and 45 minutes from Richmond. 804-829-5377. 3 miles west of the courthouse in Charles City County - Tyler Country.

GROUNDS TOUR: 
The self guided grounds tour is a walking tour that encompasses the exterior of John Tylers house and 21 numbered stations representative of a 19th century plantation. Each stations description & history is outlined in a pamphlet that is available to the guest at the main entrance kiosk. 

The fee for the self guided grounds tour is $10.00 per person, children 15 and under are admitted free. 

HOUSE TOUR: 
House tours are available by appointment. The main house at Sherwood Forest is lived in by the grandson of President Tyler and his family. Reservations may be made by calling 804-829-5377 and leaving your name, phone number, date of tour request and number in the party. Reservations are contingent on the availability of the house. Sherwood Forest will return your call. 

The fee for the guided house tour is $35.00 per person.
